It's like you have been watching dinners at our house all my life. I have been lucky enough to see my sons grow up and at least one of them automatically gets up to help. Another will always take 'point' on entertaining those coming in the door and getting drinks. The third is still working on his chosen role, but as he has a good heart, I think he'll do well. The imbalance needs pointing out, and there is no better person to find the right words to communicate it. Thank you.

Women are my heroes -- for the reason you cited, and about a hundred others.

Blessings on your family in the U.S. and elsewhere this Thanksgiving.

Oh, yes. Thanksgiving at my Italian grandmother's (where also 3 maiden and 1 widowed aunts lived). Tables stretched the length of the living room to accommodate all the family. My girl cousins and I, now old enough to act independently, were tasked with getting the meal on the table. First course, always fruit cocktail in little bowls. As they tucked into their fruit, we girls set the rest of the meal on the table. By the time we were finished taking the empty bowls to the kitchen, most of the family were half way through their main plates and galloping on to dessert. Now we sat down...I love them all.

This really is a big thing. I have taken time out of the paid workforce to raise my sons, ages 7 and 9, and perhaps the biggest downside is the gender roles they are growing up witnessing.
