As a writer and mom who gave up writing for two years, who loves my kid and has felt it so hard to find a foothold from which to climb up and out (and I am *still* extremely lucky, have a comfortable life, decent income from my spouse, and some semblance of community support), this actually made me cry from recognition. Thanks for writing it.

I wish we could just tell peopleβ€”like the writer who commented on your pregnant stomachβ€”to just fuck off. No one asked you to prognosticate. If you have any interest in the career prospects of parents, agitate for universal childcare.

Nearly 3 years into motherhood and the only reason I have a career is because my husband quit his job to care for our daughter. I’m still plagued by guilt and feelings of inadequacy (as a mom and a professional) every day, but thank you for the reminder of my incredible privilege.

I just finished reading your book, Bess Kalb, and it is amazing. Best book I have read all year. it captures the complexities of mother-daughter et al love in a way that is unique and as close to the truth as I have ever read. Thank you for being such a phenomenal writer. Please keep writing, one foot in front of the other.
