Make a gorgeous summer salad with watermelon and mint and feta!
Get into the Jake Gyllenhaal miniseries Presumed Innocent! I think it’s on Hulu if you have it?
Remember who “Joe and Jill” were before all this!
Figure out a signature mocktail - maybe tonic and lime juice with a rosemary sprig?
Finally make one of those summer tomato tartes tatin where you just put the halved tomatoes and whatever herbs on a baking sheet with pre-made puff pastry over it and let it fly.
Two words: Mandolin! Lessons!
Some interesting beadwork?
Read the new Kevin Kwan book but tell everyone you’re reading the new Griffin Dunne! But you’ll read that next! Right after the new Plum Sykes!
Speaking of novels…WRITE ONE! How hard can it be? Here: One day there was a man who thought everything was fine just as it was, then something terrible/big happened, then he tried to solve the problem with other people, then a lot of description about food or a city or whatever, then they solve the thing. Or he dies! Honestly whatever, just make it “vivid” and/or “brave.” Use a pen name if you’re scared! Everyone does! ;)
Honestly? Gazpacho! If you have a blender and good olive oil, you can do it!
Look into whatever Charli XCX is.
Try an edible! Just half to start, then who knows! Could become your thing!
Get a watercolor book and paint lovely flowers until your loved ones ask if you’re okay.
Write a list!
Stop writing lists and go paint some more. Maybe a lovely lavender stem. Two sprigs perhaps? You know what? Make it three.

bess, you are doing 'descent into madness' in such a gorgeous way -- truly inspirational
As usual, the kind of unique angle no one else would think to explore, yet we expect it from you!
So I'm laughing through happy tears on behalf of children & grandchildren who deserve a better, kinder, more competent government than last week's Milwaukee Cuckoo's Nest offers. Thank you, Joe.
