Hello.
Last night, despite being an extremely paranoid person about internet security, my Twitter (X) account was hacked, the hacker started scamming people by pretending to sell laptops, and I am still locked out of the account.
Hopefully this will be resolved quickly, but until then, don’t buy a laptop from whoever is posting and messaging from “@bessbell” who is asking people to wire $600 to a Zelle account linked to someone else’s name, and is claiming to be my “assistant.”
And if you happen to know anyone high up at Twitter, please do let me know. They fired their safety team, so the bots I’ve been messaging about it are unhelpful, and the reports I’m filling out are likely falling into a digital wastebasket.
Stay safe out there. What a terrible and hellacious website.
Apparently, there is no one at Twitter paid to monitor this, and the lesson is Elon Musk is at good at running a website as he is sending rockets into space that do not explode.
Onward.
Thank G-d for Substack.
UPDATE: It’s back. Thank you to the friends, colleagues, and Instagram followers who made it happen!
The thing that killed me was their attempt to "prove" it was you by posting that Phone with your Twitter profile pulled up and the safety alert notification on the phone was for an event in Atlanta.
My Twitter page took a terrible turn after RNC. Tweets by you and other positive, informed people are now overwhelmed by promotions for Opus Dei-level Catholicism, porn, anti-Harris disinformation and the fake Trump accounts exposed by CNN yesterday. ID's of European women are being stolen for pro-Trump testimonials. Not a pretty sight and typical of the Musk commitment to First Amendment abuses.
