If you know me, you know I care most of all about two things: Bringing those billionaires home from the Titanic Death Capsule, and making children laugh.
When my oldest son was two years old, I wrote a children's book for him because there were not many books that succeeded in making him *really* laugh with his head back while also not making me want to bang my head against a wall. I also was vaguely irked that all the well-intentioned books people gave me when they found out I was having a boy were things like "Amelia Earhart: Lil Boss Bitch" and "Watch Out! A Girl Can Do Science!??!"
So I wrote Buffalo Fluffalo to accomplish two things: Make him laugh and non-patronizingly show him that you don't have to act tough when you feel sad or nervous. So far this has worked!
Then the brilliant wood block artist Erin Kraan brought Fluff to life. And the most gratifying thing has been watching the deeply silly, rhyming story take on a fully realized form through Erin’s whimsical, heartfelt, textured, gorgeous aesthetic. When I saw her earliest rendering of our hero, I cried (by then I was pregnant with my second kid).
Pre-orders really are the whole deal here, so if you or someone you know have a kid who likes funny books, THIS IS FOR THEM! But it’s also for YOU!
And if you SHARE the book cover on Instagram, I’ll be reposting those all day!
Together, we can make all sensitive boys giggle.
Thank each and every one of you,
Mother of Goofs
Ordered mine for my similar-aged boys! (and for me!)
I have no doubt the writing will be spectacular, but the illustration is absolutely perfect! Can’t wait to get my hands on this.
