There are people I love who are proudly not voting for Joe Biden in this coming election and when I see their posts about it I taste blood. I have seen people on both ends of the political spectrum over the war in Gaza make this call. Here is what one gal thinks about it:
Refusing to vote for the most life-saving candidate in this election is not moral courage, it is an act of outrageous luxury. It is an act that sacrifices the vulnerable in the name of virtue. I think it is nearsighted at best, and smug indifference to death at worst.
Here is a voting guide that might be helpful if someone you love is considering sitting on their hands in November.
Will the suffering, starving people in Gaza be safer under the nuclear reign of Trump and Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller? Biden is the only candidate committed to staying Bibi’s hand and brokering peace, not enabling him carte blanche.
Will Jews be safer when the openly, virulently antisemitic MAGA agenda is the law of the land? Biden is the only candidate who did not compliment the Nazis in Charlottesville screaming “Jews will not replace us.”
Will your vote protect people in red states pregnant with terminal fetuses?
How about teenaged sexual assault victims?
Will your vote protect LGBTQ kids whose governors openly mock them?
Will your vote safeguard the Supreme Court majority for decades to come?
Will your vote relieve student loans for a generation of educated Americans unable to afford housing?
Will you look your kids in the eyes and tell them your vote defunded and dismantled the EPA with one jagged flourish of a Sharpie?
What will you tell your daughters when they need to turn to IVF to conceive your grandchild?
Will your vote kick our gasping democracy in the ribs and let it fall into openly Christofascist tyranny?
Will the courage of your convictions protect the people laying in their own blood, wishing there had been a way to have prevented this? Wishing anyone could have seen this coming?
The revolution you think you are starting is the one they will win.
Silence at the ballot box isn’t protest, it is amplifying the voices of the people you oppose.
Courage is standing up for the vulnerable at the expense of your personal satisfaction.
Please vote for Joe Goddamn Biden.
Anyway, comedy tomorrow!
Put this on the front page of every newspaper in this country.
As someone who was recently attacked in the NYTimes Instagram comments section by a former friend who is now a self-righteous non-Biden-voter, I was so happy to read this and remember i'm not alone. Thank you.
